Enjoyed the hike. Took about 5 hours round trip.Iannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1030381026504940207.post-40281812108627025152012-10-11T20:14:49.197-10:002012-10-11T20:14:49.197-10:00I'll have to disagree with Anonymous above me,...I'll have to disagree with Anonymous above me, while it is eroding and not highly travelled I descended the backside today without any issue.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but there are solid ropes in place and it is very doable.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1030381026504940207.post-59097790028597944532011-07-24T07:31:34.575-10:002011-07-24T07:31:34.575-10:00Just completed the backside yesterday and i don...Just completed the backside yesterday and i don't recommend it to anyone. It seems that the backside is eroding creating loose boulders and even more and longer decents. Too dangerous and not worth the risk!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1030381026504940207.post-47932548307030144332011-02-21T09:46:42.076-10:002011-02-21T09:46:42.076-10:00glad you're okay kahele. that last rope secti...glad you're okay kahele. that last rope section is a steep one...kaleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07786812574368047860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1030381026504940207.post-45817761149863310912011-02-17T11:49:41.973-10:002011-02-17T11:49:41.973-10:00Just did Ahiki backside this past weekend. My hand...Just did Ahiki backside this past weekend. My hands slipped on the final long rope section and I fell head-first down the ridge about 25 feet (according to my partners). Fortunately, I fell straight down and landed on the ridge instead of going over the sides. Ended up with a broken rib, a bruised rib and a gash on my right arm. Better than the alternative, I guess.

Anyway, just wanted to share that you can also take a trail on the right that takes you off the ridge and connects with a wide, well-maintained contour trail that connects with the 1st peak trail just past the abandoned water pump shack. The trail is relatively easy and flat. It took about an hour at a leisurely pace. This junction is not too far past the junction you guys took.Kahelenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1030381026504940207.post-19943971496572084892010-11-22T08:54:41.744-10:002010-11-22T08:54:41.744-10:00My husband and I only made it to the first rock cl...My husband and I only made it to the first rock climb well the first pretty steep climb, for us atleast it was only about 30 minutes up the trail, i can imagine we have a lot more climbing to do from there, we turned back he was worried about our footing on the way back downAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09672618853935573037noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1030381026504940207.post-23250834145421930132010-11-22T08:53:17.624-10:002010-11-22T08:53:17.624-10:00Ok I was right then :) thanks for the info :) I wi...Ok I was right then :) thanks for the info :) I will go ahead and say this again, we LOVE your blog, you frequently make my friend late for work because she is reading about trails :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09672618853935573037noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1030381026504940207.post-91173830412332178442010-11-22T08:38:27.266-10:002010-11-22T08:38:27.266-10:00the trail to the right is pu'u kalena; the tra...the trail to the right is pu'u kalena; the trail to the left is hapapa.kaleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07786812574368047860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1030381026504940207.post-43458820987590146522010-11-22T08:00:47.316-10:002010-11-22T08:00:47.316-10:00Ok, seriously some of your hikes make me want to p...Ok, seriously some of your hikes make me want to poop my pants hahahahahaha, wow crazy scary!
