Island Trails' 2009 Video Summary
I know. It's been a while since I updated this blog, but I haven't updated it for good reason. It's a super long story, so I'll make it short by just saying that my head gash from Piliwale Ridge in October didn't heal at all and got infected with staph. The gash has gotten so much better since I was prescribed some antibiotics. It's actually all good now, and I could hike tomorrow if I wanted to, but I don't want to. I'd rather surf my brains out now that Fall Semester will be all done for me tomorrow. If any of you in Hawaii have been watching the news or have been taking a drive up to the North Shore to check the waves, well, this winter season has been the best it's been in a very long time. So I'm going to get back in the water and save the trail hunting for next year (2010). It's not that far away anyway, so I can wait. But I've been missing out on all the surf action up north, so that'll be my main focus for the remaining of the year. I also want to wait for the new HTMC trail itinerary for the first three months of 2010 so I can finally attempt to get my membership (I must've said that a billion times). So I'll leave you all with a 2009 Video Summary of all the hikes my friends and I did this past year. Some were amazing, and some were plain stupid. Anyway, enjoy the video. Merry Christmas, and have an amazing New Year! Aloha!

Brah, sick the video. So what we go try break the 42 hike record next year. haha. was fun, my back is still messed up from piliwale, but altleast we still got our lives. Im sure we'll go back one day, once the bee's leave. Was a good year. Hope next years hikes even better. Aloha. Dnaps
Oh man! Glad to hear you're finally getting better! See you next year!
so lucky you have the time to surf up there. i gave up surfing because i only have time on weekends, and i dont like the crowd. rather hike than deal with aggro people, thats what i get paid to do.
Kaleo,
Aloha- you have such an inspiring site & breathtaking pictures. I stumbled across your blog while looking for info on the Waahila trail but I keep comming back to read your stories. My old job kept me in the mountains almostly daily but i'm stuck in the office alot now and longing for the serene greenery. Ive committed to start hiking much much more in 2010, hope to see you in the mountains.
Where are you? Come back!
beware of that Nalanz! she likes to burn people
Kaleo, you are my hero. Can you please do a post on what you typically bring on a hike?
Clothes? Snacks? Lunch? Gear?
You encounter a lot of different terrains and weather conditions. What do you bring?
Also, do you bring stuff just in case you end up having to stay over night?
Thanks!
i usually bring
-canned food
-rope
-hydrogen peroxide
-leatherman tool
-cell phone
-compass
-small first aid kit
-emergency blanket
-surveyor's tape
that all i can remember off the top of my head. i bring more or less depending on the type of hike (waterfall, ridge, length of hike, etc.). hope that helps...
